Rockabye baby
On the tree top
When the wind blows
The cradle will rock
When the bough breaks
The cradle will fall
And down will come baby
Cradle and all

Does the baby fall to his untimely death or something?
It certainly sounds like that to me!

To think we sing this song to children as a lullaby to help them sleep.
I'm surprised they don't get nightmares!

Has anyone besides me thought of that before?

The Simpsons, if I remember properly. The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular was the episode. Just check it out. (Still wanting a Speed Boost, ♀ Carvanha/Sharpedo).

I'll get you one soon, I promise.
I've started my X version from the beginning recently which is why I haven't got around to it.

I'm pretty sure the fact that baby comes down "cradle and all" suggests that the baby is caught by the cradle therefore it's actually sort of like a reassuring lullaby because they're telling the baby that if they fall there will always be something soft there to catch them....

read into things, guys.

We sing about all kinds of strange things to children. It's not like humpty dumpty has a happy ending. Idk chloe, I think if you're falling from the top of a tree inside a cradle, you're still going to die. Begs the question why a cradle is at the top of a tree though.

You have a point there, I didn't think of that!

Wolstenholme

to be fair you aren't gonna die if you're lying in a basket full of pillows and blankets.

Delicious_Scout

Depends on the height of the tree. Try falling from the top of a sequoia...

not all that tall really...

Milsap

If it's falling out of a bonsai tree, it should be okay.

I'm shocked at how popular this thread is!

And to think it all started as a conversation I had with one of the support workers at a drama group I go to.

Awkward Squirtle

How many pillows and blankets are we talking? Remember it's a baby we're talking about, they can't take a fall as well as a full grown person. Blankets can only absorb so much force.

mostall nursery rhymes freak me out now tbh

Kpyna

oh, are we not going to talk about ring around the rosie up in here?

nothing like a fun nursery rhyme about a calamity that killed like 200 million people

SirBlaziken

That was ring around the rosey.
