Why is Damaster's profile so popular?

I often go into the "Who's online" section of the site and I notice a lot of the time there is at least 2 or more guests viewing Damaster's profile.

Damaster is a user that has only been active on his account for literally 2 minutes (and not recently, at that!) so I'm wondering, why is he so popular?

I have no clue to be honest, maybe it's him and someone else just staring at his profile. It's no problem really.

it's usually more than two haha

I dunno if it has anything to do with his sig (which links to a Polish container production site)? Or maybe the internet just loves his profile

Wolstenholme

Kathy1990's profile is also really popular

I've got a hunch, though, that the who's online feature (for guests) is broken in some way.

theres always a few people performing Unknown Action which seems a bit fishy

Yes, like this:

But there's something else, yes...

iirc search engines gathering pages show up as guests, so I would say that there's something that attracts the search engines to these profiles, such as the URL in Damaster's signature.

Joeno

Yeah, that's search engine traffic - I suspect the unknown action is actually retrieving our sitemap, which doesn't show up in who's online properly because it's modded in.

I've removed the Damaster account as it's there purely for that link from what I can tell - we can do without that penalty.

The site may speed up a little now that the Damaster account is no longer causing spam.
Here's an idea, you should add a rule to the site stating that if a user hasn't logged in for a while (say 6 months) then their account will be deleted. That way, any users who create accounts solely for spam will be punished.

Richard and Blaziken

Users leave all the time and come back, so that would cause more harm than good. TCoZ is an example of a member that has long droughts of inactivity but then he comes back for a while.

yeah deleting accounts on any site is kind of a douche move i think
unless theyre clearly spam accounts but some people just... take breaks. itd suck to come back and have your account deleted because of a rule you didnt know was implemented.

A better 'rule' would be something like accounts with also count of less than say 50 would be deleted after like 6 months of inactivity or whatever, but tbh there's no reason to because it's only going to give the site extra traffic, and therefore more chance of new members, which is always a good thing. (Unless they suck xD)

Then I'm glad that I came back after about 18 months of inactivity last year. I know another site that does it... can't remember which one.

This sounds better. I've seen loads of users join the site and never post. Maybe that's because they only signed up to do the name rater and it was full so they just completely forgot about it. I don't know. Still, this is a great idea.

People can sign up for the site for more than just forum posts - for example, you need one to use the Name Rater feature. We're not going to be using post count for anything like this.

Performance isn't affected by a single account and the site won't really speed up by deleting this account. There's no need to remove any.

Sorry for bumping but I've seen another account with the same sort of thing as Damaster (along with a number of guests viewing it on Who's Online):

This

granted the links don't seem to send to the right location but I dunno, it could be the same situation?

(sorry if there's no point in doing this though)
